Well if there was any thought of turning back, it’s too late now! Duncan and I signed our official contracts with the Hebei Baoding Eastern Bilingual School and officially (wŏ men dōu shì lăo shī (we are both teachers)! Our contracts run from September 1, 2013 – June 30, 2014. We also applied for our visas and, as stated on our application, we will be there for about 330 days!
Our trip will begin with a flight to Shanghai for a weeklong orientation with CIEE. For that, we have to be in Shanghai on August 25th at the latest. Though we haven’t scheduled flights yet, that means that we will be leaving China, most likely, on August 23rd and arriving the 24th, barring any delays that seem to be pretty customary for international flights. That means my 21st birthday will be in Asheville! What a great way to say goodbye to the United States!
For now I am tentatively planning to be in Texas August 4-10. Then I will be drive back to Asheville so Duncan and I can go to Rocky Mount to see his family. Then back to Asheville for final packing, saying bye to Asheville friends, my birthday, and saying bye to baby Desmond!
These posts have been somewhat boring so far but I promise they’ll pick up once my journey in China begins. Right now, I am continuing to work through Rosetta Stone and I’m making a list of places I want to see in China, a list of things I want to do, and a list of questions to get answered while there. If any of you ever have anything you want me to find out while I’m there, let me know!
